There is no easy way to say this: there are big chances that your roof will leak once in its lifetime. Especially if you don’t use the appropriate materials. No one likes or appreciates that fact, but everyone has to deal with it. Leaks are the worst. Not only that they can result in the massive investment but they also compromise the safety of your family members and your possessions. We recommend you treat small problems immediately and that is why we are here today. We created a small guide for you about the often repairs that you can do by yourself. Be sure to keep this guide with you all the time because it can be of big help. However, sometimes, it is inevitable for you to call your contractor for bigger problems.

There are numerous things that your roof can suffer from and let water in but we decided to combine these prominent three causes of roof leaks. So, keep reading.

Incorrectly sealed valleys

An area where two wings of roof come together is called a valley. These areas are usually sloped so if the valley is not properly sealed together, water can easily get inside your house and run down the roof. You can actually notice this one. Look for wear spots that run along the seams of your roofing system.

It happens for a variety of reasons. First of all, it may be the contractor’s fault. If they are not properly sealed, it is easy that this happened. It may have cracked due to animals or from being stepped on or simply the excess rain, ice and snow caused it to erode.

This is fixed by applied a new leak-proof barrier all along the valley and the shingling top layer. However, this is something we advise you not to try alone. Call a professional; this is a more complex problem than broken or missing shingles.

Skylights are improperly installed

Skylights can cause a leak that is at least really easy to identify. If you notice wet spots or you are constantly in need to put buckets on the sides of the skylights, then we are pretty sure you have found the cause. Don’t run into decisions; this could also be a result of broken flashing.

This happens due to two reasons. First, the skylight is improperly fitted and poorly installed or secondly, decayed insulation around the edges of the skylight. Both of these are very often

Clear the debris off the skylight and see if there are any cracks. Seal the crack with a layer of clear silicone if you find anything. Inspect the rubber seal around the skylight. If you can’t find anything, then it is possible that flashing is the problem.

Clogged gutters

If will probably be able to notice a clogged gutter. Leaves sticking out of the gutter on example. However, keep an eye on the lack of water that goes from the downspout during a big storm.

Your gutters have a clear purpose; keep the water away from the house. They help lead the water away from your roof. If there is something blocking them then they get clogged. Watery content will amass and maybe seep through the small crack right into your home.

Get your ladder and work with your hands. Pull out anything that block the gutter. Simple as that!

Great Service

I choose Bill Hubbell over 3 other roofers home depot because he made the roof happen at a critical weather situation labor day weekend that could have resulted in much home owner ins. damage
