How to repair damaged shingles

Repairing Roof Leaks in Houston, Pasadena, The Woodlands, Baytown, Conroe, Deer Park, Friendswood, Galveston, Lake Jackson, La Porte, League City, Missouri City, Pearland, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Texas City, Atascocita, Kingwood, Channelview, Mission Bend

There are many things that could eventually damage your roof. The sun, the weather conditions, the temperature of your area, many factors can influence the general state of your roof. But somehow, no matter what the real cause behind it all is, most of the roofing problems homeowners today have to face are caused by shingle-related problems, such as broken or cracked shingles.

The bar is set relatively low when it comes to the need for a roof repair. Basically, anything that’s damaged, no matter how damaged it is, requires immediate attention. Be it a cracked shingle or a tree falling on your head, make sure to act accordingly.

When it comes to shingle-related roofing problems, one of the most common procedures include replacing damaged shingles and repairing cracked shingles.

Replacing damaged shingles is a task any homeowner can take upon themselves to deal with. A bundle of shingles is relatively cheap, and it’s generally easily attainable, so it shouldn’t be a problem for you to replace any damaged shingle you come into contact with. Make sure to match your shingles in style and color. The tools you will need for replacing a shingle are: a hammer, a flat pry bar, a knife and some nails. Four nails are enough for a single shingle, but count the possible errors in and get a little extra. Start by removing the first row of nails. In case you’re doing this on a warm afternoon, your shingles aren’t likely to break. However, if they do happen to break, don’t worry, you are replacing them after all. After removing the shingles, slide a new shingle in place of its former resident and secure it by using four 4/11 in. nails.

Although a bundle of shingles costs about $15, there are some situations in which a repair isn’t that necessary. In case your shingle is simply cracked or scratched, you needn’t jump and grab that hammer and remove the shingle, you can simply repair it. It takes approximately 5 minutes to repair a cracked shingle. Apply a thick layer of roofing sealant under the crack and press the shingle down. After placing it down, apply a second layer of sealant atop of the crack. Spread the roofing sealant equally across the shingle. After spreading it, grab some of the loose granules that have probably accumulated in your gutter and mask the appearance of the area you’ve been working on. That way you can fix your problem without anyone having to know.

Be very considerate when it comes to roofing projects. You will most likely make only a huge change in your roof during your stay in the house. It can be costly so plan your actions carefully to avoid any unnecessary costs. Check your options and don’t be embarrassed or afraid to contact a licensed expert.

Great Service

I choose Bill Hubbell over 3 other roofers home depot because he made the roof happen at a critical weather situation labor day weekend that could have resulted in much home owner ins. damage
