How to properly clean your gutters

A building that is being built in the middle of nowhere.

The yearly inspection of your home consists of a few basic categories. These can often be expanded into much more categories, depending on the criteria. When it comes to your biannual roof inspection, there are many things you should check. One of the things you simply can’t avoid is cleaning your gutters. No matter the place you live in and the usual climate for your area, there will always exist a certain degree of debris that will accumulate in your gutter.

Generally speaking, all experts could agree on the basic definition of a gutter. A gutter is basically a long metal tube. It’s usually placed along the upper edge of your house. It’s the main function is to divert any sort of rainwater, leaves or other sorts of debris that falls down. Although it’s function seems trivial and easily replaceable, if you came to that conclusion, you would be wrong. A gutter is one of the most important segments of your roof. By neglecting your gutter, you are risking some serious damage to your household. It doesn’t require a huge amount of maintenance, on the contrary, if done regularly, your gutter inspection and maintenance should last for about 15 minutes.

Keeping your gutter clean isn’t a hard job. It’s actually very simple and can be done in many different ways.

If you want to keep it minimal, you can always do it the old-fashioned way. Climb a ladder and use either your hands or some tools to collect the debris. Just remember, safety first. Always remember to wear thick gloves and long-sleeved shirts or sweaters – the edge of the gutter is pretty sharp.

Another way you can clean your gutter can turn out to be a pretty fun experience. Attach a tool of your own preference to a wet shop vacuum cleaner and blow the waste away. Don’t use unnecessary force or you might end up blowing your own gutter away.

Feel free to combine any method you find and adapt it so that it perfectly suits your needs.

Maintaining your gutter is an easy task. Experts agree that you should inspect your gutter biannually, along with other segments of roof inspection.

While you’re checking the general state of your gutter feel free to take a water hose and immediately remove any unwanted substances stuck to the inside of your gutter. Also, make it a habit of observing the slope of your gutter. Any unwanted sloping may lead to damage and leaking, and of course more financial costs. You can check that by flushing some water down the drain and observe its speed. Readjust the slopes of your gutter accordingly.

In case you’re living in a moist area with a lot of rainfall, experts recommend installing a dry well, or any other kind of dump. By doing that, you are diverting the flow of the water away from your foundations. That way, you are directly adding to your home’s longevity.

Great Service

I choose Bill Hubbell over 3 other roofers home depot because he made the roof happen at a critical weather situation labor day weekend that could have resulted in much home owner ins. damage
