Why should you inspect your roof

A building that is being built in the middle of nowhere.

There are numerous causes of roof damage, for sure.  Aging, psychical damage, improper maintenance, etc. However, weather conditions are still the most prominent and still hold a number one place when it comes to causes of roof damage. Roofing contractors always enhance how important it is to prepare your roof for winter and snow. But they often do not mention one of the most crucial weather conditions. High winds and hurricanes are often neglected and ignored, and they should not be. Wind damage can be devastating for your roofing system, and that means for the inside of your home as well. While snow may cause a major leak, the wind can cause you to be roofless. Don’t let this happen to you and think on time.  The wind can cause a wreaking havoc on the inside and pull the shingles or panels out of their places. Imagine if you find yourself ina situation where you have an extra strong wind combined with extra heavy rain. That is a recipe for disaster. Not only that your roof will be destroyed but the water will get inside your house and ruin everything. This can seriously lead to a big problem. Even the smallest holes and cracks can be crucial. So react as soon as possible.

We don’t have many wise pieces of advice, but there is one we always mention; don’t just wait until the hurricanes start to hit your city. Save your money and save your nerves. Also, save your time. Good preparation is always the best way to prevent big damage.  Few simple steps could help prevent a huge damage; huge leak. To help you out, we created this short article as a step by step guide through the hurricane season. Before trying anything, you have to be sure that you contractor did a great job when installing your roof. Proper installation can never be compensated. Now get on your roof and listen; Are you sure your shingles are properly nailed down? Badly nailed shingles can be easily torn away by the wind. So, there are many things to keep an eye on.

Step number one:

First of all; get up on your roof. Inspect it with someone for a better result. If you notice that your shingles are old, worn out, gray or cracked you should replace them immediately.  This can be risky because water can come through the small cracks and broken shingles are easy to pull.

Step number two:

Be sure to remove the overhanging branches. These can cause tearing and scratch and that can lead to bigger problems.  They are often one of the reasons why a leak can appear.

Don’t ignore the ventilation. Proper ventilation is a must.  If something goes wrong with you ventilation, the wind can raise and pull out the strongest shingles and the best material. React quickly if you notice that something is wrong with your ventilation.

Don’t only inspect your roof before the hurricanes and the strong winds. It is extremely important that you also do it after the hurricane season. That is how you can notice if the damage was done and prevent further damage. If you find all of this too crazy and too hard, call a professional but don’t risk your safety.

Great Service

I choose Bill Hubbell over 3 other roofers home depot because he made the roof happen at a critical weather situation labor day weekend that could have resulted in much home owner ins. damage
