Steps in repairing your roof

A building that is being built in the middle of nowhere.

Your roofing system is pretty much handling everything that Mother Nature brings. So, it is the most exposed component of the house. It the only thing that stands between you and the weather conditions. It acts as the shield and as a guard to your family, your belongings and everything you worked for. Isn’t that motivating enough? Doesn’t that push you to take proper care of your roof? Most roofing companies focus on winter and summer. They describe how these seasons can affect your roof.  Few roofers focus on spring and fall. This wrong since rainstorms are often in these seasons. That is why we put together this short guide on how to prevent your roof getting damaged in spring and fall.  We hope that it will be useful to you.

Problems

Winter is often despised among the homeowners because of a lot of water and storms. However, it is still not as rough as spring and fall are. These seasons may not seem like that, but they are severe. So, make sure you prepare yourself, your house and your roof for them. Spring storms are not mild; it is not a rare case that you wake up in the middle of the night because of high winds and thunders. Rain falling, thunders and lighting drumming, these all affect your roof.  Fall may not be as severe, but there is a ton of rain, debris and high-speed winds. Leaves and branches that fall of the trees can damage your roof.  Let’s see how to prevent all of this from happening.

Solutions

Things that are of big help are: drip edge, flashing, fiberglass underlayment, properly maintained gutters, and quality shingles.  That is how you keep the water away from the inside of your property. If you know how to properly install these and how to maintain them, you are on a good way to having a great looking roof.

Let’s start from the shingles. Shingles are an extremely important part, they are your roofing system. If you pick the wrong material, wrong type of shingles you are instantly ruining the lifespan of your roof. Always make sure that you discussed materials with a quality contractor. It is important not to pick a cheap option among contractor because that will probably mean that the quality of installation and materials will be compromised.

A piece of metal that is being bent and installed on the edges of your roof is called a drip edge. It has a purpose of preventing water from settling in. Drip edge prevents ice damming and clogged gutters, so it is a great solution for spring and fall. Don’t forget to put underlayment under the drip edge.

We feel like we mention flashing all the time, but it is still not enough! Flashing is one of the most often reasons why leaks appear. If the flashing is damaged, water can easily go directly to the inside of your property and there is no coming back. Luckily, it is easy to fix those.

Great Service

I choose Bill Hubbell over 3 other roofers home depot because he made the roof happen at a critical weather situation labor day weekend that could have resulted in much home owner ins. damage
